This is the best recording of this show, I have checked them all out over and over. I actually got a tape of this recording in like 1981, was really glad

to see the original finally get digitized and distributed.
This is also pretty much their last best show (so let that color your interpretation of my first assertion). If they had broken up the next night and detoxed for a while, they would have left an amazing legacy and been better off for it. I spent the 80s chasing a show like this and they never lived up to it, as far as I can tell. Came close in Augusta ME in 1984, but still more of an imitation than an expansion.

Are you sure the bass was that loud during the FOTD? Seems mighty fxcking weird.
You want to hear a great Sailor->Saint check out 5-22-82 Greek Theatre. ... All other versions take a back seat (tho this one aint bad at all, and includes some righteous audience handclaps) ....
Probably the most magnificently effed up Stranger ever played by a long shot, though. My god.

This recording is incredible! I was at this show and it sounds like you're standing right in front of the board. Great job busting this version out.
...
One of THE BEST dead shows that I've ever witnessed. The energy is crackling. I wept openly during the Sugaree...insane stuff! The boys were all over it on this beautiful end of summer day in central Maine.
